RS Furniture Hub started with a simple idea from Sumit Jathi and Ruchi Ameta: furnishing a home in New Zealand shouldn’t mean choosing between quality and a price you can live with. Like many Kiwi families, they had felt that frustration first-hand: beautiful pieces that cost far too much, affordable ones that didn’t last the year, and very little honest help in between.
So they opened a showroom of their own. Not a warehouse with price tags and no one to talk to, but a place where you could sit on every sofa, lie on every mattress, and ask real questions of people who actually knew the answers. More than five years later, that idea has grown into two showrooms, one in Palmerston North and one in Hawera, and a growing community of homes furnished right across Manawatū and Taranaki.
We are 100% New Zealand owned and still family run. Sumit and Ruchi are regularly on the shop floor, and many of our customers know them by name. That closeness shapes everything we do. Whether a family is furnishing their first home, a student needs a bed before term starts, or a couple is finally replacing the lounge suite they bought twenty years ago, we treat every visit the way we would want our own family treated: no pressure, no jargon, and no surprises at the counter.
It also means decisions get made quickly. If a customer needs a delivery moved, a custom fabric quoted, or a WINZ quote written the same day, there is no head office to wait on. The people who own the business are the people solving the problem.
It also keeps us honest. When the founders are the ones answering your questions, there is no reason to oversell a sofa that won’t fit your lounge or push a mattress that isn’t right for your back. If something isn’t the right match, we will tell you and help you find what is, even if that means waiting for the next shipment.
Every piece in our showrooms has to earn its place. We look at frames, joints, foam density and fabric durability before we look at the price, because a sofa that sags in a year isn’t good value no matter what it cost. We work with trusted suppliers and bring in pieces you won’t find in every other store.
Then we price them fairly. Our goal has never been to be the cheapest store in the country; it’s to be the one where you get the most for what you spend. That’s why you’ll find regular deals, clearance on floor stock, and finance options that let you spread the cost.
We listen, too. Many of the ranges on our floor today are there because customers asked for them: deeper seats, washable covers, more storage, and smaller pieces that suit apartments and units.
Furniture is personal. It’s where you have breakfast before work, where the kids do their homework, where you finally sit down at the end of a long day. That’s why we put just as much care into what happens after the sale: careful delivery, in-room assembly, clear warranties, and a team that picks up the phone when something isn’t right. We would rather earn your next visit than just this one.
Manawatū and Taranaki are home for us, not just places we trade. We help local families with WINZ and MSD quotes, work with landlords, motels and retirement villages furnishing rooms in bulk, and support newcomers to New Zealand who are setting up a home from scratch. Every one of those customers matters equally to us.
Many of the families who walk through our doors today were sent by a neighbour, a workmate or a relative who bought from us before. We don’t take that lightly. Word of mouth is earned slowly in small towns and lost quickly, so we work hard to deserve every recommendation — following up after delivery, fixing problems fast, and remembering the people we have served.
We’re still growing, adding new ranges, improving delivery, and making it easier to shop online without losing the personal touch of our showrooms. But the promise Sumit and Ruchi made at the very start hasn’t changed: quality furniture, honest prices, and people who genuinely care whether you love what you take home.
